Shopping on Christmas Day!? Are You Nuts?

I just had the misfortune of being tortured for thirty minutes in being seated in an area where a TV set was on and the channel was on Fox News.

Oh, the horrors!

Besides the usual litany of fluff, they actually showed shopping malls packed with people doing their Christmas shopping on Christmas Day! Are these people nuts?

Haven't any of them ever heard of the Internets?

Time is the only nonrenewable resource, my friends. Don't waste it on shopping (or going out anywhere for that matter) that is packed with people, during a rush, and the parking lots are full.

Spend that time with your family instead.

This is what I do every year instead of the Christmas rush.
You can do this too!

Here's my hint (and it's no big secret): Do all your Christmas shopping starting 12/26 until 1/30. I do. In fact, I've done that every year for the last ten years or so.

I have an eight year old son. I finished all his big Christmas items shopping at the start of 2010. I bought this year's presents for him in 2010...In fact, I have his big Christmas items already bought for 2012 and 2013.

In my case, it's pretty easy, I suppose. It's simple to figure out what a Star Wars crazy six-year-old kid would want in the next few years. I bought the big Star Wars items that retailed for $500 - $600 at 44% off (about) through Amazon.

You can do it too.

Save yourself time and money. Start your Christmas shopping (preferably online) from tomorrow until about Feb. Save a ton of money and time.

I have seen this exhibit of beautiful wedding gowns made by famous Filipino designers in the event center at SM during the Kadayawan. I love looking at the display of gowns and it makes me remember my very own wedding. Although my gown was just simple and not pricey:).

Dinner at Mandarin Tea Garden with Siblings and Hubby

My twin and my other siblings came over here in the city of Davao. My twin wanted to buy laptop, a digital camera and cellphone. She wanted hubby to accompany her with buying the laptop because hubby is a computer engineer and he knows about computer specifications and he already researched which brand is good.

After buying everything she wants to buy, she treat us with a dinner at Mandarin Tea Garden. We ordered supreme siomai which I did not eat because I have an allergy with shrimps. We also ordered pancit guisado, beef ampalaya, beef steak and fish fillet. I was the one who consumed almost all the fish fillet. It's very delicious and guilt-free because I know it's not gonna trigger neither me nor my daughter's allergy plus the fact that it's not laden with so much cholesterol.

We also ordered durian shake, my favorite. My niece had her four season juice and fresh fruit salad. Having able to bond with my siblings is a good feeling especially when we are feasting yummy foods in front of us:).

Quality Nursing Scrub Suits Online

When me and hubby was at the mall yesterday, hubby saw one of his former classmates when he was still a nursing student. She is now working at a local hospital in our city.  They just talk for a while and her friend asked him if he knows a tailoring shop that makes nursing uniforms because most of the known tailoring shops are mostly busy since most big school with nursing course ordered in bulk. Most of the known tailoring shops in our city, always give priority to big schools.

My hubby told her why not order nursing scrubs online. He said there are plenty of online stores where she can order nursing scrubs, and most of the stores online have plenty of nice designs and of course the cloth are of high quality that would make a nice uniform. I think my hubby's friend like his advice because she ask that they would talk again because she'll check out some sites online for sites to order scrub suits.

Shawarma

I have always wanted to try shawarma. The other day, me and hubby dropped by at Robinson's looking for Keona's milk which was unavailable in other department stores. We saw a foodcart of shawarma but we did not buy anymore because I was full.

Yesterday, on our way home from Mintal, we dropped by at SM to buy Keona's milk because my officemate told me it's available there. After buying groceries, we saw the same foodcart of shawarma and since it was snacks time, we bought shawarma so that we can taste it.

It tasted good, we chose the one with cheese. I like the spicy taste mixed with sauce and some veggies.

The name of the food cart is Leylam shawarma. Here are some of their specialties:

 • beef shawarma
 • beef shawarma with cheese
 • beef shawarma all meat with cheese
 • shawarma rice
 • shawarma rice with egg

I want to taste kabab next time...Have a great weekend friends!

Weaving

replica of women weaving. photos taken at Davao Museum

A Mandaya legend says that, the good spirit Tagamaling taught a Mandaya woman how to weave abaca fiber and make the designs. It took the woman three months to master the art of producing the textile dagmay.

Among the Bagobos, it was the spirit Baipandi, who taught the weavers tie dyeing (ikot) method and the designs woven into fabric. Baipandi also taught them the art of embroidery and beadwork.

Indeed, in the past, the art of weaving is a sacred activity. There were many taboos associated with it. As the weaving area was a sacred ground, where the spirits were actively inspiring and guiding the weavers, it was off limits to the male members of the community. Violation of the taboo carried stiff penalty.

Davao Agro Trade Fair 2010- Bonsai Plants

I really love plants. I'd like to think that I have a green thumb because I easily can grow any plants that I put on the soil. I never miss to go to the Agro - Trade Fair every Kadayawan Festival. Just seeing the plants displayed in the fair lightens my spirit and gives delight to my senses.

I adore bonsai plants although I don't know how to make them. I don't plan of learning how to do it soon because my spare time is spent with my little girl who's very active at her age now so I need full attention on her.

Thankfully, the fair satisfies my eyes. It has so many display of plants of various kinds and what caught my attention was the adorable display of bonsai plants. I was literally wowed by them. Here are some photos:

Native Delicacies

When I went to a trade fair in the city hall with hubby, I was amused to find these foods that I have never tasted. Some of the foods look familiar but there are also those that I find really rare. You can never see them sold in malls or department stores. The booth that display those delicacies are owned by our Maguindanao, Tausog and Maranao Muslim brothers. Aside from foods, their booth also showcased some native products made by them.

Hubby, the ever curious one tried to buy some of these foodies and he loves the taste of the sweet ones like dudol . Have a great Saturday everyone. Happy weekend:).

Motor Week at Gaisano Mall Davao

Guest blogger: Raynan of Raynan's World

Its my first time to do a guest post, and I'm glad to do it here in Davao Delights. I had no work on Monday so me, my wife and Keona went to the mall so I can have my hair cut. When we arrive at the mall I notice plenty of people gathering at the atrium. There was an exhibit of different motorcycle or motor bike. Hmmm.. I'm not that sure whats the correct term for it. The different designs of the bikes were nice. Although I'm not a big fan of this type of vehicles, but I do appreciate the people who are creative in designing their bikes. Here are some of the photos of the exhibit.
